Frequently asked questions
How link previews work, why the fetch happens server-side, and what is blocked.
It checks the page title, meta description, canonical link, favicon, Open Graph tags, Twitter/X card tags, and the robots meta. The preview cards show the Open Graph card (what Slack, iMessage, Discord, LinkedIn, Facebook display) and the Twitter/X card with explicit fallbacks marked so you can see which tags are platform-specific and which are inherited from Open Graph.
The diagnostics panel surfaces things that affect unfurls and SEO: missing or oversized title/description, missing og:image, missing twitter:card, http://-loaded images that iMessage and Slack silently drop, a meta robots noindex that hides the page from search and some unfurlers, and a canonical URL that points to a different page than the one fetched.
Most websites do not allow arbitrary browser-side CORS reads, so your browser cannot fetch their HTML directly. Stashr fetches only the public HTML metadata path, applies URL safety checks, and returns the parsed fields.
No. Localhost, private IP ranges, and internal network targets are blocked before fetch. This tool is only for public web pages.
Some sites block bots, require JavaScript rendering, require login, return non-HTML content, or send metadata only after client-side hydration. This tool reads the server-returned HTML, which is what many link unfurlers see too.
No. Each platform caches and transforms metadata differently. This tool shows the raw fields and a close generic preview so you can catch missing titles, bad descriptions, broken images, and wrong card types before sharing.
