Frequently asked questions
What OPML is, what the validator checks, and how the cleaned file is built.
OPML is the XML format RSS readers use to export and import your subscriptions. Each feed is an outline element with an xmlUrl attribute, and folders are outlines that contain other outlines.
Any reader that exports or imports OPML, including Feedly, Inoreader, NetNewsWire, Reeder, Miniflux, FreshRSS, NewsBlur, The Old Reader, and Feedbin. The cleaned file is plain OPML 2.0 with type, text, title, xmlUrl, and htmlUrl on every feed, which is what importers expect.
It checks that the file is well-formed XML with an opml root and a body, then flags feeds with no xmlUrl, relative or non-http URLs, duplicate feeds, empty folders, and a missing OPML version. It also fixes raw & characters in URLs, which is the most common reason an import fails.
Feed URLs are compared after lowercasing the scheme and host, dropping any #fragment, and trimming trailing slashes. Query strings are kept because many feeds use them. The first copy is kept and later copies are left out of the cleaned export.
Yes. Paste one feed URL per line instead of OPML and the tool builds a valid OPML file from it. Lines starting with # or // are skipped.
No. The file is read with the FileReader API and parsed in your browser with DOMParser. Nothing is sent to Stashr or anywhere else.
