Stashr vs Obsidian Web Clipper
Obsidian's Web Clipper is a great way to save an article as durable, local Markdown you fully own, no account and no lock-in. For social saves it struggles: clipping is a manual one-click action, and on X, Instagram, TikTok, and GitHub it is lossy, often saving the images but not the text. Stashr captures each social save the moment you tap it, keeps a reliable copy of the text and images, and tags and searches it for you.

Common questions
The verdict
Obsidian is a superb place to think, and its Web Clipper has a real strength most tools here cannot match: everything you clip becomes a plain-text Markdown file in a local vault you own outright, no account, no lock-in, readable offline and durable for the long term. If your priority is owning your notes as files, that is hard to beat. The gap is social capture. Clipping is a manual one-click action, and because the clipper runs one generic reader over every page, it is lossy on X, Instagram, TikTok, and GitHub, often saving the images while dropping the text, with X Articles and threads coming through incomplete. Stashr captures each social save automatically, keeps a reliable copy of the text and images, and adds AI tagging and search by meaning out of the box. The two can complement each other: clip long-form articles into Obsidian, and let Stashr capture and keep your social saves.
