Dead link checker
Paste up to 500 URLs or drop a bookmarks.html file to find broken, redirected, and dead links, with Wayback Machine snapshots for the ones that are gone. Free, no signup.
One URL per line, up to 500 per run. Lines without a link are ignored.
Paste links or drop a bookmarks file to see which ones still work. Dead links get a Wayback Machine snapshot when one exists.
Stashr keeps its own copy of everything you save, so a dead link never takes the post with it.
Frequently asked questions
What each status means, why some links can't be verified, and where the archive links come from.
OK means the page answered normally. Redirected means it works but now lives at a different URL, which is shown so you can update the link. Broken means the server said 404 or 410. Domain gone means the hostname no longer resolves. Can't connect covers refused connections and broken HTTPS certificates. Timed out means nothing came back within about 6 seconds. Server error is a 5xx response, which is often temporary.
Lots of sites block automated requests with 401, 403, or 429 responses, or a bot challenge page, even when the page is fine in a normal browser. Those links aren't counted as dead. Open them yourself to be sure.
For broken, timed out, unreachable, and gone-domain links, the checker asks the Internet Archive's availability API for the closest saved snapshot and links to it with its date. If no snapshot turns up, you get a link to search the Wayback Machine yourself.
Up to 500 unique URLs per run. Duplicates are removed first. If your list or bookmarks file has more, the first 500 are checked and the tool tells you how many were skipped.
Yes. Export bookmarks from Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox, or Safari as an HTML file and drop it in. The file is parsed in your browser and only the URLs are sent for checking.
No. Each URL is sent to a Stashr server, requested once (HEAD first, then GET if needed, without downloading the page body), and the status is returned. Private and local network addresses are refused.
