How saving works

Stashr mirrors each platform's own save button, so saving on the platform saves to your library.

Stashr never adds its own save button. It watches each platform's native save or bookmark action and mirrors it. Saving on the platform is saving to Stashr.

The save-and-mirror model

Every time you save or unsave on a platform, a small floating tooltip appears near the button:

  • "Stashed" when a save is captured
  • "Unstashed" when you remove a save
  • "Failed" in red if capture did not work

The tooltip shows for about a second. The platform save always goes through regardless. Stashr's capture is best-effort, so a failed capture never blocks your action on the platform itself.

What each platform watches

The platforms below are the ones supported today. New platforms are added over time, and each mirrors that platform's own save action the same way. The Connections page always shows the current list.

PlatformAction Stashr mirrors
XThe bookmark button
RedditSave on posts and comments, in the "..." overflow menu
TikTokThe bookmark/favorite button, on the feed and on video or photo detail pages
InstagramThe Save button on the feed, profile grid, and Reels, including saving into an Instagram collection from the hover flyout

Unsaving on the platform removes the item from Stashr too, shown as "Unstashed".

Upload and sync

After capture, the bookmark uploads to your library. The extension queues uploads and retries failures. The popup sync bar shows how many items are uploading, "All synced" once everything lands, or a failed count with a Retry button. The toolbar icon shows a small badge while uploads or imports run.

What gets stored

A saved bookmark keeps the post text, images and GIFs, the author and avatar, the date, and the original link. Images and GIFs are copied to Stashr's storage so they survive even if the original is deleted.

Videos

Videos are never stored as files. Stashr keeps the poster or cover image and a link to the original, not the video itself.

After a save lands

If AI tagging is enabled (a Pro feature), it runs asynchronously after the save. The card in the web app moves through "Capturing…" then "Tagging…" then shows tags. Tags usually appear within minutes but can take up to a day.

Turning capture on or off

You can toggle capture per platform in Extension settings or from the Connections page in the web app.

If your access has lapsed

If you save while your trial or subscription has lapsed, the platform save still happens, and Stashr holds the captured save (shown as "waiting for upgrade"). Restore access within about a week and held saves upload automatically. The extension keeps unuploaded captures for roughly seven days, so if you wait longer than that, run an import to pull them in later. Either way the save on the platform itself is never touched.
